Humor and Hijinks at the Stargate Summit

At the “Stargate Summit” panel, Fri 1PM in the Peachtree Ballroom (W), the audience was treated to the humor and hijinks of Christopher Judge, Mitch Pileggi, Alex Zahara, and Jennifer Spence. Originally slated to feature six celebrities from the various series, a couple of guests got hung up on their way to the panel and didn’t make it. Judge himself arrived late but was greeted with an exuberant welcome from the audience.

Zahara started things off with a bang by stripping off his shirt to put on the t-shirt he received as a gift from some Dutch fans, which featured a Stargate with wooden shoes at the base. The guests were then asked by the moderator what they most wanted to see at the Con this year and all described “scantily clad people,” but also the fantastic costuming. Judge’s contribution to this question was, “I want to see as much nudity as possible and I want to avoid furries at all costs.”

Before opening the floor to questions from the audience, the moderator asked the guests to talk about some of their recent projects. Pileggi is working on the new Dallas television series and described how he actually started his career as an extra on the original Dallas, 30 years ago. Zahara recently completed five movies, including coproducing one that will partially be about Sasquatch. Spence received lots of audience approval when she shared that she’s currently working on Continuum. She and her husband have also recently written and directed a feature film called Down River. Judge has completed several projects recently, including a new movie by the same people who did Sharknado and mentioned he’ll be starring in the upcoming movie Informants.

There was more laughter when the guests answered the question, “If you could be any other sci fi character from any other sci fi show, who would you be?” Judge immediately said he would be the Borg queen from Star Trek: The Next Generation, because “I’d never leave the house.” Spence said that she’d be K9, because she loves dogs (and detests cats). Zahara has always wanted to be Q from ST:TNG, played by John de Lancie, who he had just met. Pileggi said he would be Teal’c, because “I have the forehead.”

Some of the hilarity was physical in nature, and you just had to be there for it. However, the audience clearly loved this fun and energetic group of panelists.
