Jason Momoa‘s directorial debut Road to Paloma is on the way to theaters in the U.S., U.K., Australia, and New Zealand.
WWE Studios and Anchor Bay Films have announced that they will team up to distribute the film, which the Stargate Atlantis actor (“Ronon Dex”) also co-produced, and co-wrote with Robert Homer Mollohan and Jonathan Hirschbein.
The film will arrive in the U.S. later this year, according to Deadline.
Writer, producer, and director Momoa also stars in the film as Robert Wolf, a Native American who is being pursued by the FBI for taking the law into his own hands after his mother is raped and killed on their reservation. He crosses paths with a down-and-out musician (played by Mollohan), and the two form an unlikely bond as they motorcycle their way across the western America in search of redemption.
Momoa’s significant other, Lisa Bonet, also co-stars in the film along with Sarah Shahi (Fairly Legal, Person of Interest), Michael Raymond-James, Wes Studi, Timothy V. Murphy, and Chris Browning.
“Jason is a genuine triple threat with his writing, directing and, of course, acting talent,” WWE Studios President Michael Luisi said. “He has delivered a gritty, provocative and powerful film. We couldn’t be more excited to introduce it to audiences through our continued collaboration with our partners at Anchor Bay.”
Momoa is currently shooting the new Sundance Channel series The Red Road (story).
(Thanks to Matt for the tip!)
Well… the good news is that this means he won’t be available for another Conan film.
