The Glass Menagerie to play at the Booth Theatre

The American Repertory Theatre's (A.R.T.) production of Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie will open at Broadway's Booth Theatre on 26 Sep 2013, following previews from 05 Sep 2013, and play 17-week limited engagement through to 05 Jan 2014.

The production, directed by John Tiffany, will star multiple Tony and Emmy Award-winner Cherry Jones (Doubt, "24") as 'Amanda Wingfield,' film and stage star Zachary Quinto ("American Horror Story ") in his Broadway debut as 'Tom,' two-time Tony-nominee Celia Keenan-Bolger (Peter and the Starcatcher) as 'Laura' and Brian J. Smith ("SGU Stargate Universe") as 'Jim,' the Gentleman Caller.

The production, which played at the A.R.T. in Cambridge, Massachusetts from 02 Feb - 17 Mar 2013, opened to excellent reviews: "Every so often, as this glorious production allows, it lights up the darkness like a divine benediction" (New York Times); "In Tennessee Williams's words, does not go to the moon. It goes much further." (WBUR Arts); Cherry Jones' turn as Amanda Wingfield ... is agonizingly, painfully perfect (Boston Herald review).

The Glass Menagerie is set in St Louis in the 1930s and follows the story of the Wingfield family and the troubled relationship between an aging, overbearing mother Amanda andher frail daughter Laura. It is told in recalled memories by Tom Wingfield, who is torn between his obligation to his mother and sister and his desire to break away from them.

The show will feature set and costume design by Bob Crowley, lighting by Natasha Katz and sound by Clive Goodwin.

The Glass Menagerie will be the American Repertory Theatre's second production to transfer to Broadway this year. Their production of Stephen Schwartz's and Roger O. Hirson's musical 'Pippin,' opens at the Music Box Theatre this evening.

The Glass Menagerie had its Broadway premiere in 1945, directed by Eddie Dowling and Margo Jones, it starred Laurette Taylor (Amanda), Eddie Dowling as (Tom) and Julie Haydon as (Laura).

The show has been revived on Broadway five times, the last was in 2005 was in a production directed by David Leveaux, which starred Jessica Lange (Amanda), Sarah Paulson (Laura) and Christian Slater (Tom).
